The Lirico of Cagliari celebrates the magic of Rossini: L'Italiana in Algeri is staged

Gioacchino Rossini 's L'Italiana in Algeri returns to Cagliari after 27 years. At the Lirico in via Sant'Alenixedda everything is ready for the first performance, which will be performed tonight at 8.30pm . Tonight is the third appointment with the opera. The masterpiece of Il Cigno di Pesaro, loved by the public, is a playful drama in two acts with a libretto by Angelo Anelli: one of the most popular comic masterpieces. The staging, from 2009, then revived in 2013 and in 2018-2019, comes from the Teatro Regio in Turin, and is directed by Vittorio Borrelli, for the scenes by Claudia Boasso, for the costumes by Santuzza Calì, filmed by Paola Tosti, and for the lights by Andrea Anfossi, filmed by Vladi Spigarolo.
The musical direction is entrusted to Massimo Zanetti, an appreciated and now regular presence in the Cagliari seasons, who has the task of directing the Orchestra and the (male) Chorus of the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari in the masterpiece of the brilliant composer from the Marche region. The choir mistress is Mirca Rosciani, making her debut in Cagliari and replacing Giovanni Andreoli who is busy directing the concerts of the female choir, while the harpsichord maestro is Francesco Massimi. The edition of the work performed is the critical one of the Rossini Foundation of Pesaro, edited by Azio Corghi, in collaboration with Universal Music Publishing Ricordi srl, Milan.
The protagonists of the cast, as per tradition, will alternate in the performances: Fabrizio Beggi (3-5-8-10-12)/Alessandro Abis (4-7-9-10-11) (Mustafà), Chiara Notarnicola (Elvira) , Alessandra Della Croce (Zulma), Alberto Petricca (Haly), Antonino Siragusa (3-5-8-10-12)/Chuan Wang (4-7-9-10-11) (Lindoro), Teresa Iervolino (3- 5-8-10-12)/Anna-Doris Capitelli (4-7-9-10-11) (Isabella), Bruno Taddìa (3-5-8-10-12)/Vincenzo Taormina (4-7-9 -10-11) (Taddeo).
The opera, lasting a total of approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes including the interval, is performed in Italian. The following performances are scheduled: Saturday 4 May at 7pm (round G); Sunday 5 May at 5pm (round D); Wednesday 8 May at 8.30pm (round B); Thursday 9 May at 7pm (shift F); Friday 10 May at 8.30pm (shift C); Saturday 11 May at 5pm (round I); Sunday 12 May at 5pm (round E). The appointments for schools which include the performance of the work in a reduced form, lasting approximately 60 minutes in total, are: Tuesday 7 May at 11am and Friday 10 May at 11am. The Cagliari-born actor Simeone Latini performs in the role of narrator. .
