The marriage between Alessandro Sorgia and the Lega Sardegna seems to have finally foundered. The regional councilor has announced his political divorce from the Northern League after eighteen months of discontent, silence, and closed doors.
What finally ruined the relationship, Sorgia himself says, was "the straw that broke the camel's back": the appointment of the Port Authority commissioner without even consulting him.
A decision that couldn't be ignored and immediately sparked a response from the Lega Sardegna, led by regional secretary Michele Ennas. The party bluntly stated: "On Sorgia, clarity and respect for the truth. If he's consistent, he should also leave the post he holds thanks to the Lega."
The Northern League's harsh and uncompromising statement accuses the now ex-Lega member of having maintained "a polemical and negative attitude from the beginning." It adds, "Otherwise, one might think he chose to distance himself because he senses an election and is looking for a new position."
Meanwhile, the League is trying to turn the tide of the controversy by asserting its own political line: defense of energy sovereignty, protection of the landscape, and battles against "external impositions" on the island.
"The League," Ennas reiterated, "is and always will be at the side of the Sardinians. Our positions are attracting new members from local administrators who love Sardinia, not their seats."
