From Shakespeare to Beckett, from Sophocles to Eduardo De Filippo. The program for the 2023-2024 season of "La grande Prosa e Danza" winks at the classics but also at the great contemporaries. A stimulating journey for mind and heart among the great masterpieces of the history of theatre, reinterpreted in a modern key, and creations by important choreographers.

At the Teatro Massimo there will be 10 titles on stage between November and April. Organized by CeDAC with the patronage and support of the Ministry of Culture, the Sardinia Region, the Municipality of Cagliari and with the contribution of the Sardinia Foundation, this new season will start with two unscheduled events. This weekend the French company Bellazar, for the first time in Italy, with its transversal artistic languages will bring "Eclipse" to the stage; on 25 and 26 November, however, Carola Puddu will be on stage, playing the black swan in a reinterpretation of "Swan Lake". Also out of subscription is the first show on Saturday 11 November with "The Invisible Husband", written and directed by Edoardo Erba and starring Maria Amelia Monti and Marina Massironi. The curtain officially opens on “Maria Stuarda” - from Wednesday 29 November to Sunday 3 December - in the mise en scène signed by Davide Livermore with two ladies of the stage, Laura Marinoni and Elisabetta Pozzi, who alternate in the roles of the two queens (in elegant and evocative costumes by Dolce & Gabbana).

We continue with an intriguing game of theater within the theater with “Uomo e Galantuomo” by Eduardo De Filippo – from 13 to 17 December – with Geppy Gleijeses and Lorenzo Gleijeses. Journey between the lines with “The race behind the wind / Dino Buzzati or the enchantment of the world” – on the bill from 17 to 21 January – with dramaturgy and direction by Gioele Dix, protagonist together with Valentina Cardinali. We continue with a twentieth century classic: “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett – from 31 January to 4 February – in the fascinating version by Theodoros Terzopoulos, with Paolo Musio, Stefano Randisi and Enzo Vetrano alongside Giulio Germano Cervi and Rocco Ancarola.

Then “Edipo Re / Una favola nera”, a show by Ferdinando Bruni and Francesco Frongia – from 14 to 18 February – for a contemporary reinterpretation of the myth, with Edoardo Barbone, Ferdinando Bruni, Mauro Lamantia and Valentino Mannias, embellished with Antonio's costumes Marras. Portraits of artists between words and notes with “The secret of talent”, an original musical comedy by Valeria Parrella and Paolo Coletta – from 28 February to 3 March – performed by Teresa Saponangelo and Elisabetta Valgoi. “Festen / The game of truth” by Thomas Vinterberg will be from 6 to 10 March: Danilo Nigrelli and Irene Ivaldi will be in the spotlight together with Yuri D'Agostino, Elio D'Alessandro, Roberta Lanave, Carolina Leporatti, Barbara Mazzi, Raffaele Musella and Angelo Tronca. An unconfessed love between music and poetry with “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand – from 20 to 24 March – in the mise en scène by Arturo Cirillo, protagonist together with Rosario Giglio, Francesco Petruzzelli, Irene Ciani, Giulia Trippetta and Giacomo Vigentini. An intriguing story between eroticism and noir, with "The Lady of Tuesday" by Massimo Carlotto - from 10 to 14 April - with two protagonists of the caliber of Giuliana De Sio and Alessandro Haber. An Elizabethan play of disconcerting modernity will then be “The Merchant of Venice” by William Shakespeare – from 24 to 28 April – with an amazing Franco Branciaroli.

Regarding dance, the spirit is always that of an international scope: two extraordinary companies, one from the United States (Paul Taylor Company), and one French (Maladain Ballet Biarritz) who will bring their choreographies with refined technique. Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 January on stage “Hope is the Thing with Feathers” by Michelle Manzanales, and “Airs” and “Piazzolla Caldera” by Paul Taylor. Finally, a tribute to the genius of Ludwig van Beethoven with “Beethoven 6” (from “La Pastorale”) – Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April – by Malandain, in which the French choreographer Thierry Malandain celebrates the German composer's love for nature on notes from the Sixth Symphony, alongside an excerpt from “Mozart à 2”.

Out of subscription, in January, “Sabir / Mediterranean journey” – Saturday 13th at 8.30pm - with the étoile Emanuela Bianchini and the soloists of Mvula Sungani Physical Dance. Alongside them, two Italian proposals. Daniele Cipriani will bring “Duets and Solos” – Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 February – and Il Balletto di Milano, instead, will debut with a show in two acts by Stèphen Delattre, which is inspired by Notre Dame de Paris – Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 March .
