Today, March 20, is the International Day of Happiness and, according to an Ipsos survey, almost three out of 4 people (73 percent of respondents in 32 countries around the world) declare themselves happy. In particular they are Chinese (91 percent), Arabs (86), Dutch (85). The lowest values are those reported by Poles (58 per cent), South Koreans (57) and Hungarians (50).

Italy ranks 25th: 68 percent of those interviewed declare themselves happy.

However, in the last 12 months there has been an increase in the global happiness rate: plus six points compared to a year ago and plus 10 compared to August 2020, in conjunction with the coronavirus pandemic.

On average, Ipsos continues, happiness in middle-income countries (according to the World Bank definition) has seen a more pronounced increase than in high-income countries. Middle-income countries' average level of happiness surpassed that of high-income countries for the first time since Ipsos began tracking them in 2011.
