For cycling enthusiasts, the news represents an important milestone and a remarkable opportunity.

The next board of the UCI, or the International Cycling Union, will be held in Cagliari from 2 to 5 May , the most important political-sporting event in the world of cycling during which the main leaders of the world cycling environment will meet engaged in meetings and commissions , as well as in collateral initiatives , where they will take stock of the situation in the various sectors of the discipline so as to project themselves towards the future with even more awareness. Four days that will represent a precious opportunity for the whole island as well as a great honour, as underlined by Enrico Della Casa , one of the four Vice Presidents of the UCI, deeply attached to Sardinia as his wife is originally from Gesturi.

Satisfaction also shared by Stefano Dessì, 39, president of the Regional Committee since 2016 . « A few days ago we spoke on the phone with Enrico Della Casa and Daniela Isetti, also a member of the UCI, who communicated the news to me. This is a very important moment for Sardinia and a showcase to be treasured: our land lends itself very well to events of this kind, being endowed with an excellent climate and comfortable and welcoming structures».

An event that adds to the Italian Cycling Week on the roads of Sardinia in 2021 and to the three stages of the women's Giro d'Italia last year . « The location where the UCI activities will take place has not yet been defined, everything is being defined», adds Dessì. « We will certainly talk about cycling in its entirety, focusing on the current situation and the future of the discipline ». The hope is that more and more people will approach the world of cycling. «The women's Giro d'Italia will return again this year – he concludes – and it will be a further moment of growth that can significantly contribute to the diffusion of cycling on the island».
