The inauguration is scheduled for a month's time. All that's missing is some furniture and the finalization of a few technical aspects related to the operations base. The new Forestry Corps headquarters in Iglesias (in the former Ceramica hostel) will also house the helicopter base.
The barracks will be named after Michele Murenu, the Assemini forest ranger from the Santadi forestry station, who lost his life on August 24, 2024, while carrying out his duties. The next firefighting campaign will begin from the new Forestry Corps headquarters.
The former hostel was granted free loan for use by the municipal administration in October 2024.
The operation required a fairly long bureaucratic process, slowing down the delivery of the keys to the Forestry Corps, which will vacate its headquarters on Via Canepa for the new barracks in the Ceramica area.
