During the Byzantine age the Marmilla played a leading role in the control and connection of the movement of goods and people between the hinterland and the urban realities of central and southern Sardinia. This is thanks to the development of a network of scattered agricultural settlements, built on the ancient structures of the Nuragic age or on the remains of the manor villas of the Roman age.

This insight into the past of Marmilla is only a very small part of the history that lies behind the evolution of the territory surrounding Barumini and its sites. Marco Muresu will tell the story of its journey over the centuries and how the landscape itself has changed over time in the third evening dedicated to "Cultural meetings in Barumini". The appointment is for Friday 8 March, from 5.15 pm at the G.Lilliu center.

During the conference entitled the Marmilla in the Byzantine age, Muresu with his guests will focus on how a systemic analysis of archaeological data from the territory demonstrates that its exploitation was conducted in the name of continuity, respecting and enhancing its strategic points from part of the human communities who, over the centuries, lived in Marmilla, shaping its landscape.

“Cultural meetings in Barumini” is the series of events organized by the Barumini Sistema Cultura Foundation, within the training path of its staff and represents an important moment for comparisons and insights on the many themes that revolve around the thousand facets of archaeology, history and culture of Nuragic Sardinia.

Friday's event is also open to everyone and is free.
