The largest widespread museum in Italy reopens its doors. The National Day of the Italian Historic Houses Association is back on Sunday 22 May , this year in its twelfth edition. Even some exclusive Sardinian places can be visited for free , to immerse yourself in a pivotal heritage of the country's long-term sustainable development.

Among the “jewels” not to be missed is the suggestive seventeenth- century convent built in Cagliari on the remains of a Roman domus and transformed in 1800 into a country residence by the noble Carboni family.

And again, at the gates of Cagliari in what was once the islet of Sa Illetta, there is also the church of San Simone and the adjoining farm. A piece of history to discover: the first plant, which dates back to the mid-16th century, was later enlarged with the addition of a second floor.

Another mansion that has a lot to tell is Villa Vivaldi Pasqua , in the heart of Cagliari. Once it was in the countryside: it was born at the end of the eighteenth century among the vineyards and vegetable gardens that extended to the edge of the Villanova district. The villa belonged to Don Pietro Vivaldi, Marquis of Trivigno and Pasqua. The Vivaldi family came to Sardinia at the end of the seventeenth century to manage all the Sardinian tuna traps given in concession by the Spanish and then Savoy king.

The opening of these treasures to the public "is an opportunity to raise awareness among civil society and institutions on the role that historic homes play in the socio-economic fabric of the country - explain the promoters of the initiative - In fact, their induced activities generates a positive impact on many supply chains. Many then are the professionals who gravitate around a dwelling, crafts with ancient knowledge, artisans, restorers, glass masters, increasingly difficult to find. A heritage, that of residences, handed down to us through the centuries also thanks to restoration and maintenance works, the costs of which are borne solely by the owners but from which the quality of the centers in which these properties exist ".
