The announcement for the fifth edition of the "Gianni Massa" Award is online, promoted by CORECOM Sardinia as part of the initiatives organized to encourage media education , as well as the responsible use of the means of communication, knowledge, the ability to analyze and critical interpretation of the languages, contents and messages transmitted.

The 2024 edition of the Award named after one of the greatest Sardinian journalists has as its theme violence in media representation. «We live in a profoundly violent society – explains the President of CORECOM Sardinia, Sergio Nuvoli – We helplessly witness the plague of feminicides, which play such a large part in the news reports. In the context of television broadcasts and on social channels we are witnessing a progressive impoverishment of communication in favor of constantly aggressive verbal forms. Hate speech must be curbed by all means, because it often anticipates physical violence and social laceration."

«This is why we are once again calling together schools, universities and colleagues – continues Nuvoli – The Gianni Massa Prize is today an excellent opportunity to debate the most important issues of the moment, but also to understand how much a certain topic was effectively explained by the media in our region."

There are three sections of the Prize, school, university and journalism: for all the deadline is set for 31 October 2024. For the journalism section, three prizes worth 2 thousand euros each are up for grabs, for works coming from high schools across the whole of Italy. Sardinia, three prizes of 3 thousand euros each are available, while for the best two degree theses (both three-year and master's degrees) participants will compete for the awarding of two prizes of 4 thousand euros each.

Participating is very simple: everything happens electronically, through the procedure indicated in the notice available on the website of the Regional Council of Sardinia (CORECOM section).
