Three Sardinian artists, with works created in the 20th century and the common thread of light that illuminates especially the landscapes. The Sassari headquarters of the Fondazione di Sardegna hosts the exhibition "The Time of Light," a visual journey that captures the poetry of light in its daily transformations, through a selection of works from the Foundation's art collection.
The exhibition focuses on the experience of light as a form of perception and narrative, capturing the time and space of everyday life. The selected works offer a sensitive interpretation of light in relation to landscapes, gestures, objects, and interiors.
Using watercolor, Bernardino Palazzi, a native of Nuoro, depicts the urban landscapes of Nuoro, Oliena, Nola, Carloforte, and the port of Cagliari in 21 small-format works created in the 1970s: the dampness of the harbor and the dazzling light of the sea cliffs.
Cagliari native Antone Ettore Maury, on the other hand, uses oil pastel. Ten works in various formats, created between 1930 and 1942, are featured. Cagliari is the focus, with its panoramas and harbor, but a landscape with chimneys is also noteworthy. The impression of the atmospheric thickness, the refraction of the humid air, and the salty scent of the pine trees are rendered with the sfumato of pastel and through overlapping small blue strokes that condense the shadow.
The eight works by Nuoro native Antonio Ballero, created in oil paint on cardboard, are almost a century old. They range in various formats from 1920 to 1929 (the artist died in 1932) and depict Nuoro, the blossoming almond trees of Grughes, and a sunrise and sunset in Tertilo.
