The eleventh edition of the Emilio Lussu Award Festival officially kicks off tomorrow (Tuesday, November 11) in Cagliari, scheduled until Sunday, November 16 in the Sala Castello of the Hotel Regina Margherita (viale Regina Margherita 42).
Six days of meetings, music, conferences, and reflections in the name of the intellectual and politician from Armungia, on the fiftieth anniversary of his death.
The festival will open at 5 pm with greetings from the institutions and the artistic director, Alessandro Macis, with organizational direction from Patrizia Masala. This event reaffirms its mission as a meeting place for writers, journalists, scholars, and readers.
Immediately afterward, at 5:30 pm, the first major event will take place with Susanna Basso, Alice Munro's longtime Italian translator, the protagonist of the tribute to the Canadian Nobel Prize-winning writer, in conversation with Lorella Costa. This meeting will explore "words for translation," exploring the invisible connections between different languages, cultures, and sensibilities.
At 6:30 pm, the festival will welcome writer Rosa Matteucci, who will present her new novel, Cartagloria (Adelphi, 2025), in conversation with Chiara Tommasi. An ironic and restless narrative that reflects on identity and the contradictions of contemporary life.
The first day will close at 7:30 pm with the lecture Mulheres com palavra – Donne con parola (Women with Words), followed by the presentation of her novel Piripiri e il rubato all'Accademia del grande pollaio (Ticinum Editore, 2025) in dialogue with Alessandro Macis: an allegorical fable on the power of knowledge and creative freedom.
The opening day will thus be a journey through the many forms of speaking and translating, placing at its core the power of the word as an act of connection, awareness, and memory.
Wednesday, November 12th
On Wednesday, November 12, the Festival will dedicate the entire day to the figure and legacy of Emilio Lussu, on the fiftieth anniversary of his death.

The voices of Andreina Del Raso and Maurizio Mezzorani will guide the public on a journey through art, words, and memory, transforming the visit into a poetic and civic tale. This afternoon, at 5:00 PM, the 8th International Conference on Emilio Lussu will be held in the Sala Castello of the Hotel Regina Margherita. The conference will focus on "Writing and Narration in Emilio Lussu," and will be coordinated by Gian Giacomo Ortu. Speakers will include Gigliola Sulis, Carlos Claveria Laguarda, Renate Lunzer, Daniele Mannu, and Alberto Cabboi, with presentations exploring the language, translations, and ethical vision of the writer and politician from Armungia.
