And who said that even in the period of imminent Oscars you can't find a moment to dust off old glories? For those tempted by the umpteenth rewatch but above all for those who unfortunately let it slip, Martin Scorsese's masterpiece " The Departed - Il bene e il male ", 2006 title starring Leonardo Di is available for a few days on Prime Video Caprio and Jack Nicholson . A still brilliant and very current thriller, unmistakable in the care and style that made the iconic director's mastery famous.
In Boston, Irish mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) subjects his protégé Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) to rigorous training to pose as an agent and be able to act, from within, in the police corps. In the same period, the young apprentice Billy Costigan (Leonardo Di Caprio) follows the same intense preparation and is chosen by a special investigative section to infiltrate the men of the underworld boss. A close fight will come out between Billy, who will provide confidential information to the police in an attempt to frame the boss, and Colin, who is busy trying to obstruct the investigation as effectively as possible.
Remake of the film "Infernal Affairs" by Andy Lau and Alan Mak , this highly inspired detective story that combines elements of comedy and drama stands out for its constant surprises and, already from the prologue, knows no dead time or a slow and diluted narrative. Together with the extraordinary interpreters already mentioned - who boast dizzying performances with the present roles - we also find Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, Ray Winstone and Vera Farmiga.
The film won no less than four statuettes at the 2007 Academy Awards ; among them Scorsese has finally received - after five hard-earned nominations in previous editions - the award for best director.
In this regard, it is curious to note how the director admitted, during an interview, that he literally hated the making process - and above all post-production - of the film. It is also interesting to remember the attempt made by Mark Wahlberg to make a sequel , also trying to involve illustrious names such as Robert De Niro and Brad Pitt. However, it seems there were no precise ideas about the sequel and the idea of the project soon ended up in oblivion.
