Sardinian politics is in mourning for the death of Giorgio Oppi . The councilor for education and regional councilor of the UDC Andrea Biancareddu is among the colleagues who knew the centrist leader best. “I am very shaken - he declared - I met Giorgio for the first time in Tempio when I was 22, I have known him for a lifetime, he taught me a lot. He had a great value, both mental and material generosity, and then frankness ”.

According to Biancareddu, Oppi was "a master in decision-making, and among other things I learned from him that politics is for everyone".

The funeral will be celebrated tomorrow afternoon at 16.30 at the Basilica of Bonaria . Today, however, the funeral home has been set up in the Council Chamber, in the Assembly Building in via Roma in Cagliari. The coffin was transferred from the Brotzu hospital shortly before 8 pm. Waiting for him, in the hall of the building, the presidents of the Region and the Regional Council Christian Solinas and Michele Pais, the councilors Alessandra Zedda, Andrea Biancareddu and Mario Nieddu, the former president of the regional council Claudia Lombardo. ANCI AND THE COLLEAGUES OF THE COUNCIL - "Oppi is the figure of a protagonist of Sardinian politics of the last decades towards which - regardless of how it was thought - a significant value and specific weight was recognized in the evolution of democracy in Sardinia". Thus the president of Anci Sardegna Emiliano Deiana after the death of the dean of the Sardinian Assembly. "Giorgio Oppi - adds the number one of the association of municipalities - was an authentic Christian Democrat: attentive to what was going on in society, the difficulties of the disadvantaged classes, profound connoisseur of the Sardinian territory and historical memory of autonomy". Now, he continues, "the news gives way to history: to determine and study the deep furrow that Oppi and the politicians of his caliber and his generation have left in regional institutions".

Meanwhile, messages from Oppi's colleagues in the Regional Council continue to arrive. "We are losing a column of Sardinian politics that will leave an unbridgeable void in the classroom of the Regional Council - the directors of the Psd'Az write in a note - of which he has been the undisputed protagonist in recent decades, participating, always without sparing himself, in some of the steps most important in the recent history of Sardinia. We remember him with the admiration he has always aroused in life, with the smile that tore his caustic irony, with the memory of his example ". According to the leader of the League, Pierluigi Saiu, “Sardinia loses a man of the institutions, a political leader, an ally with whom there have been moments of confrontation, even tough but always loyal. For sure Oppi was a person who has always had his land at heart, offering his contribution for the good of the community ".

PAIS AND THE LEAGUE - “Oppi was an expression of that traditional politics made up of human relationships, even heated ones, and characterized by great passion. Refined connoisseur of the Regulations and of the council paths, he will be missed by all of us ". This is the message of the president of the Sardinian Assembly Michele Pais after the death of the dean of the Regional Council. "He left us a man who has dedicated most of his life to politics, with impetus and determination - he adds - we will miss his experience, his advice also, at times, expressed in a rough way but always the result of his great competence, his constant presence in the Council, we will miss his 'beating' colleagues during the interventions in the classroom, his amusing anecdotes about characters he 'crossed' on his way ".

The memory of the deputy and former regional coordinator Eugenio Zoffili also came from the Lega - with whom Oppi had a conflicting relationship: "I got to know him well during my experiences as a regional coordinator of the Lega: in him I found an authoritative ally, with whom there have been confrontations and even clashes, but who always had his Island in his heart, which also thanks to him I learned to know better. A prayer for him and for Sardinia, which today loses a historical protagonist within the Institutions ". The current coordinator of the Carroccio, Dario Giagoni, recalls that" Giorgio did not like the sviolinate but went straight to the heart of the problems with a determination and a sometimes disconcerting sincerity ".
