Seven summer concerts with the greatest composers of classical music, exceptional guests, and a new setting that will help give new life to the 48th edition of the concert season organized by the Friends of Music Association of Cagliari.

The concerts will start on Thursday 23 May, and will continue until 1 August and then, after a break, regain momentum in autumn and accompany lovers of classical music until December for a total of seventeen evenings. This year the concert season will not be held as usual at the Auditorium, for the first time the events will be hosted in the new Carmen Melis Theatre, in Piazza Amedeo Nazzari, in the San Benedetto district. Amici della Musica will be the first association to use the Carmen Melis Theatre, a space in the city finally dedicated to chamber music, for an entire concert season.

To inaugurate the 2024 concert season of the Amici della Musica Association there will be an exceptional guest, Maestro Francesco Libetta, who with his piano recital will lead the public on a journey through the centuries and styles to delight the public with the music of composers who made history.

All in one evening: you will go from the baroque of Johann Sebastian Bach to the poignant romanticism of Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin and Robert Schumann, up to the evocative compositions of Gaspare Spontini and Ludwig van Beethoven. The concert will culminate with the masterful performance of Ezio Bosso, in the vibrant transcription of Maestro Francesco Libetta, with movements taken from the "Oceans" Symphony. A contemporary work that takes the listener on an emotional journey through extraordinary soundscapes.

Francesco Libetta is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest pianists of his generation. He has performed concerts in prestigious halls around the world, including Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Carnegie Hall in New York and Lincoln Center in Miami. International critics acclaim him for his exceptional talent and his profound musical sensitivity. Libetta studied under the guidance of renowned masters such as Vittoria De Donno, Jacques Castérède and Pierre Boulez, and gave memorable concerts that left an indelible mark on the musical landscape.

The inaugural concert opens the way to a season full of unmissable events , among which "I grandi arrangetori" stand out with the quartet composed of Riccardo Ghiani on the flute, Gianmaria Melis on the violin, Vladimiro Atzeni on the cello and Francesca Carta on the piano for a dedicated evening to the three giants of classical music: Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; and "Omaggio a Puccini", a show to celebrate the genius of Giacomo Puccini through his most beloved arias and compositions with a cast of talented artists, including the baritone Francesco Piano, the tenor Mauro Secci, the soprano Paola Spissu accompanied by Valerio Paper on the piano.

In the program of events there will also be space for two evenings which will give the public the opportunity to discover the young talents of the classical musical panorama : the clarinettist Paolo Pontillo, 24 years old, will take to the stage of the Carmen Melis Theater, with Filippo Piredda on the piano, and the flautist Alice Naitza, 18 years old, accompanied by pianist Francesca Carta. The pianist Mario Carraro in his recital will guide the audience through the fascinating musical universe of Igor Stravinsky, and to conclude the first part of the season the Adorno Quartet will lead the audience to discover the string quartet through the works of Mozart and Haydn, offering a fascinating exploration of the repertoire that gave birth to one of the most beloved ensembles in classical music.

After the summer break the programming will continue with a leap into medieval music with the "Codice di Faenza" performed by the Minim, the ensemble composed of Lucio Garau on the portative organ and Emanuele Buzi on the viella, then the piano will be the protagonist again with Emanuele De Lucchi who will undertake an ambitious project performing the complete Godowsky-Chopin etudes in two separate concerts, revealing the complexity and beauty of these works.

Autumn will also mark the return to the stage of the theater in Piazza Amedeo Nazzari of Francesco Libetta, for the second recital, and of the Adorno Quartet. The duo composed of Andrea Bini on marimba and Francesca Deriu on piano will combine these two instruments in an innovative program with works by contemporary composers and transcriptions of classical pieces.

Following again is an interesting duo where the freshness of the young flutist Flavio Serafini will merge with the experience of the more mature pianist Magagni and the violin and piano duo of Claudio Mondini and Luigi Stillo with the music of Robert Schumann and César Franck. To close the season, the performances of the solo instruments with the great Russian violinist Boris Begelman who will offer an exciting program of solo violin, and Matthias Ziegler, one of the most multifaceted and innovative flautists on the international scene, who will explore new sounds and expressive possibilities by combining the flute with electronics.
