From 1 January 2023 , the Sardinia Region will find itself with over 200 fewer doctors . This is because the contracts of USCA doctors, Special Continuity of Care Units, and those working through temporary agency will not be renewed.

The complaint is from the PD council group: "Currently - reads a note - the USCA are taking charge of fragile patients , who from Sunday 31/12 will no longer have any type of assistance in addition to general practitioners who are already in great difficulties in managing their patients. The same USCA doctors who are supporting the prevention departments by carrying out necropsy visits, in the emergency rooms, are also taking care of running the integrated home care service for positive patients to guarantee health care in countries without GPs for outpatient and home visits and the prescription of medicines, entire countries that from 01/01/23 will remain without any medical figure of reference".

In the district of Nuoro alone, the towns covered are Oliena, Ottana, Orosei, Dorgali, Siniscola, Bortigali, Dualchi, Noragugume, Atzara, Ortueri and Sorgono : «But we could continue to list many others in the Sassarese area and in other provinces of Sardinia».

Hence the attack on councilor Carlo Doria who « instead of giving answers, limits himself to listing what other types of activities these doctors will be able to carry out from 01/01/23 and to barricade himself behind the alibi that this service cannot be renewed as it provided by the national government.

«Perhaps the Councilor forgot that the USCA extension was not foreseen at a national level as early as 06/30/22 and that they have been renewed by the Region with regional funds, funds which, as far as we are told, have not been fully used and which could be exploited for an extension while waiting for an alternative service to be set up to meet the citizens' health request. Furthermore, even the doctors of the temporary agencies, who are responsible for carrying out Covid vaccines in the outpatient clinics or at the home of fragile patients (only in Sassari about 100-150 in the clinic plus 10 home care) will not be extended. We are talking about professionals who could and can be useful for carrying out other types of vaccinations and therefore give strong support to the hygiene and public health service ».

Councilor Doria «continues to talk about his magnificent projects, projects that in fact won't start in the short term, how will the RAS be able to do without these 200 doctors? Who should fragile positive patients and in ADI turn to? Who will show up next week instead of USCA doctors in the locations discovered by GPs? Who will support the prevention departments? Have you already found who will replace the functions of this staff from 01/01/23? The commissioner should answer our questions clearly and precisely , without hesitation about his fantastic projects which today remain only words carried away by the wind".
