In the front row among the most popular television shows in the Prime Video catalog is undoubtedly “The Boys”. Now in its fourth installment, the irreverent series based on the comic of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson has won over fans of nerd culture and casual viewers thanks to the charisma of its characters and highly provocative content that overturns the imagination of the world superheroic.
With the episodes of the fourth season released this year, the group led by Billy Butcher has continued the hunt for masked vigilantes in an attempt to thwart the plans of the powerful multinational Vought American. After the final episode released last July 18th which left everyone in suspense, Prime Video is happy today to announce the success of the franchise with the surprising result of over 55 million viewers around the world, a figure estimated starting from 39 days of programming following the broadcast of the first three episodes of the fourth season, plus the viewing of the final episode.
The result marks a further and substantial increase in ratings for the show, with a growth of over 20% compared to the last season. According to these numbers, the final season of "The Boys" can now be recognized as the fourth most watched season of all time in the Prime Video schedule, behind only "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power", "Fallout" and the first season of “Reacher.” According to the data, approximately 60% of overall viewers are located outside the United States, with the United Kingdom, Brazil, India, Germany, Canada, France, Mexico, Spain and Italy taking the top spots.
Additionally, the new episodes reached number one in over 170 countries on the Prime Video chart during their airing. With similar feedback, it was reasonable to expect some news on the fifth season already in the short term. From the first information we learn that the next episodes will lead the show to its epilogue, but the exit still seems quite far away as revealed by star Karl Urban.
The desire to end the show with the fifth season was recently clarified by the creator of the series Erik Kripke , who specifically said: «Partly this is a stupid thing for screenwriters, but three and five are the big magic numbers for the writing. There are three cinematographic acts, five television ones. The jokes are a three by five race. Five seems like a good round number to me. It's enough to tell the story, but also bring it to a climax without exhausting it. It was difficult because I couldn't tell everyone. I was thrilled to finally get the word out."
On the other hand, based on what Bill Butcher's interpreter said, we can assume that the final episodes will not see the light before 2026, as reported in his recent post on Instagram: «Working with the illustrious Jeffrey Dean Morgan was the best part of my career. day every day. That's all @theboystv for now folks. See you in ... 2 years (I wish it was sooner) for the final season on Prime Video." To while away the wait, in addition to the various spin-offs including the highly appreciated "Gen V", the prequel series "Vought Rising" will be released in the near future, fresh from its announcement during the latest edition of San Diego Comic-Con.
Starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, interpreters of Soldatino and Stormfront, the project will have as showrunner and executive producer Paul Grellong, known for having taken part in the developments of the main show. Below is the announcement statement released by Erik Kripke: «We are thrilled to bring you the next deranged series from the world of The Boys. It is a twisted murder mystery and tells the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the first actions of Soldatino, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Super known to fans as Storfront, who later took the name Clara Vought. We can't wait to surprise you and shock your souls with this lascivious and macabre saga soaked in blood and Compound V."
