The best tailor in Italy comes from Sardinia. The 63-year-old designer from Cagliari won the Arbiter Trophy, considered the Italian Oscar for tailoring. To the European jury of fashion experts he presented "Il bosco in città", a three-piece split: "Jacket inspired by the Norfolk model, single-breasted, two buttons, patch pockets with flaps, belt at the waist, and vest in Coarsehair fabric by Loro Piana. Bottle green for the Loro Piana striped velvet trousers with two French darts ”.

The award was given "for the ability with which he interpreted the theme", with "a garment that evokes the countryside, with a fabric that draws inspiration from Scottish ones, with a shade of green ranging from moss green to lichen" .
The professional history of the Cagliari tailor begins when he is only 14 years old and, after the mornings at school, he begins to attend a tailor's shop near his home and to observe his teacher who takes the measurements for the customers, cuts the fabrics and sews the hems. For 5 years Orrù was an apprentice in tailoring and attended numerous cutting schools.
The tailor-made work is carried out in his laboratory in via Dante but also around the world, obtaining various prizes.

“Fashion in Sardinia is a sector of great excellence and tradition - he explains -, made up of a vast network of small artisans, who from design to cut create unique garments and objects. The artisanal tailoring despite, or perhaps thanks to the crisis, is still a lively sector and the tailor-seamstress is an 'all-round' profession. The real problem of the tailoring profession is the scarce ability to pass on this art or not being able to pass on the secrets to young people. This problem could be solved by planning training, courses and internships starting from secondary school, because manual skills and sensitivity for fabric processing must take place as soon as possible. The winning recipe is therefore to present itself on the market with creativity and quality. The space is there ".
“The fashion sector in Sardinia, in mid-2020 - underlines Confartigianato -, recorded 336 activities with as many as 273 artisans; the latter offered work to 547 employees. In fact, what produces clothing, accessories, jewels and shoes is still a lively sector, which tries to react by looking for new, and alternative, slices of the market ".
"Once again Sardinian artisans are in the elite of national and international fashion design and we are very proud of this - comments Fabio Mereu, president of Confartigianato Sud Sardegna - because these small, but very precious realities, are proof of the fact that even in Sardinia you can work well, making productions that do not fear competition. And, we say it with pride, our fashion artisans are second to none ".
