On the occasion of the celebrations for Our Lady of Sorrows of Ploaghe, the teacher and artist Maria Franca Vargiu exhibited her works and those of her students in an exhibition entitled “The Thousand Colours of Art” , now in its third edition.
Highly appreciated by critics and the public, the paintings exhibited in the rooms of the Cristo Re church enriched a day of celebration deeply felt by the community with originality and personality.
The artist wanted to highlight the remarkable work of her students during the courses they attended with perseverance and dedication, culminating, as in previous years, in a group exhibition. Vargiu's courses were created with the aim of teaching everyone the art of painting so that everyone can express their personality, sensitivity, and creativity through their own approach to the world, where perfect mastery of the medium is not required, but rather the ability to convey emotion. Vargiu's paintings capture the essence of Sardinia, translated into infinite nuances: whether animals, traditional costumes, or colorful landscapes, a tangible harmony is always present. Where colors fluctuate, respecting the hue of the painting, and shadows give way to light, without filters or alterations. Maria Franca Vargiu lives and works in Ploaghe. She is part of the "Canticismo" painting movement, inspired by Father Bonifcacio of the Monastery of San Pietro di Borutta. Her artistic career began with a strong connection to her adolescence. Between 1989 and 1991, she learned the basics of painting from Father Bonifacio. In 1991, she took a course in engraving, drypoint, lithography, and etching with the master Emidio Mura of Macomer. That same year, she took a painting course in Thiesi with Professor Salvatore Ferrandu. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions and is now a key artist on the local scene.
