The Art Gallery of Sassari and the Civic School of Music celebrate the patron of Friulian origins who, upon his death, left all his assets to the city of Sassari , including some buildings and an important collection of works of art consisting of over 150 pieces. On Saturday at 6pm the museum in Piazza Santa Caterina offers the free entry event “Giuseppe Tomé. Collector and patron".

His father, Giuliano Tomé, was a Friulian who moved to Sassari at the end of the nineteenth century. In his emporium located between Via Luzzati and Piazza Azuni he sold something new for that time: ready-made clothes. His son Giuseppe continued the commercial activity and also proved to be a patron of the arts: upon his death he ceded some buildings to the Municipality of Sassari and his rich collection of paintings was transferred to the Art Gallery.

The works on display concern almost all the most important Sardinian artists of the early twentieth century : Giuseppe Biasi, Filippo Figari, Carmelo Floris, Stanis Dessy and others. In particular, a work of fundamental importance by his friend, Mario Delitala, will be visible, such as the large sketch of The Expulsion of the Arrendadore (1926).

The director of the art gallery, Maria Paola Dettori, and the writer Antonio Capitta will talk about the figure of Giuseppe Tomé. The evening will be enlivened by performances by the students of the Civic School of Music, an institution which is now based in Palazzo Tomé, which was the home of the generous patron.
