The nomination for the presidency of the ANAC falls through amid controversy.

Lega Nord member Trifone "Nuccio" Altieri, designated by the government as the new president of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, will not assume the post.

The opposition had written to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, highlighting her "incompatibility" due to Altieri's role as the League's defense chief. But Meloni responded, "It was within our remit." Deputy Prime Minister Salvini assured them, "I trust everything will be in order." Late yesterday evening, however, Altieri himself withdrew his offer: "I thank the government, but I made this decision for political, institutional, and personal reasons."

Now the Council of Ministers will have to start a new

nomination procedure, together with that – also contested by the center-left – of the League MP Giulio Centemero as commissioner of Consob.
