Seven candidates in the regional elections in Sardinia are "unpresentable" according to the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission.

This was announced by the President of the Commission Chiara Colosimo (FdI) at the opening of today's session.

The candidates who violate the self-regulation code are the following: the outgoing Agriculture Councilor Valeria Satta (Lega) ; Valerio De Giorgi, candidate on the Christian Democracy list with Rotondi ; Maria Grazia Giordo, Future Left ; Sergio Oriti Niosi, Forza Italia ; Antonello Peru, Sardinia at the 20Venti Center ; Giovanni Satta, Sardinia-PLI Alliance ; and Salvatore Sechi, candidate with Liberu .

Five of the "unpresentables" are therefore on the lists supporting Paolo Truzzu, Sechi supports Soru and Giordo runs for Alessandra Todde.

According to the Commission, councilor Satta is on trial in Cagliari for extortion in the investigation into the illegitimate appointments of some managers of the Sardinian region . De Giorgi must appear in court on 8 March, again in Cagliari, on charges of corruption , while Maria Grazia Giordo was sentenced to seven years in first instance by the Court of Cagliari for association aimed at drug trafficking , a sentence against the who appealed.

Oriti is, however, on trial (next hearing on March 22) for corruption in acts contrary to official duties. Antonello Peru has to answer for corruption charges and the trial is still ongoing, while Giovanni Satta is accused of association for the purpose of drug trafficking (trial ongoing). Finally , Salvatore Sechi is on trial for association with the aim of terrorism, including international terrorism, or the subversion of the democratic order .

After the statement released by the Commission, a clarification arrived from Massimiliano Ravenna, Valeria Satta's lawyer , who stated in a note: «It should be noted, without obviously wanting to go into the merits of the judgment expressed by the Commission, that Valeria Satta was not sent back to judgment for the crime of extortion (consummated) but for attempted extortion.

This is clarified - adds the lawyer - due to the correctness of the information, as the profound difference between the committed and attempted form of any crime is completely evident.

We also take this opportunity - concludes Ravenna - to express our belief that in the hearing being held in front of the Cagliari court it will be possible to demonstrate that Valeria Satta was not involved in the crime alleged against her".
