Selargius celebrates the Ancient Wedding, one of the most representative celebrations of the community's tradition and cultural identity. "The event," the municipal administration announced, "offers a rich calendar of events that will lead the city toward the final day of Sunday, September 20th, dedicated to the celebration of the ancient marriage rite. Exhibitions, meetings, shows, music, folklore, crafts, and food and wine will enliven various spaces in Selargius, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to learn about and experience the local customs, traditions, and practices firsthand."
The program includes shows dedicated to popular culture, a conference on weddings and traditions, a Sardinian dialect poetry competition, the Village of Taste, musical and folk performances, and initiatives featuring groups from other cultural backgrounds.
The highlight of the event will be Sunday, September 20th. The day will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the wake-up call from the band and will continue with the bride and groom dressing, the meeting with the couple from the foreign group, the start of the wedding procession, and, at 11:00 a.m., Holy Mass with the wedding celebration. This will be followed by the traditional vows of love in the Romanesque church of San Giuliano and the wedding procession. In the afternoon, there will also be activities for children and families, while at 8:00 p.m. in Piazza Maria Vergine Assunta, a folk dance and song show will conclude the day.
This event, deeply rooted in the history of Selargius, is renewed: a heritage of traditions, rituals, costumes, music, and popular culture that each year becomes an opportunity to meet, share, and celebrate the community's identity.
