The Mario Sironi Academy of Fine Arts in Sassari and the Municipality of Montefiore dell'Aso are promoting the first Summer School dedicated to the restoration of the stuccoes that Adolfo De Carolis created for the Salone del Palazzo del Podestà in Bologna, from the Piccioli De Carolis collection and never installed.
From September 22nd to 27th, students from the Sassari Academy's restoration school, assisted by restorer instructors Gianfranco Lopo and Gian Luca Tartaglia, will be working at the Marche center on preliminary photographic documentation and mapping of the artworks' deterioration, leading to the development of a restoration project. The training experience will be complemented by a series of lessons aimed at deepening their understanding of Adolfo De Carolis's work.
The rich program will take place at the Polo Museale San Francesco and the birthplace of Adolfo De Carolis, and will kick off on Monday, September 22nd, with a lecture on the artist's work by Professor Francesco De Carolis, and one on plaster casts as cultural assets by Professor Giuseppina Manca di Mores. Finally, on Friday the 26th, the opening remarks will be given by the collection's curator and City Councilor responsible for culture, Eng. Oronzo Mauro, and Professor Massimo Egidi, former Rector of Luiss Guido Carli University, focusing on the economics of culture, starting with the case study of the Piccioli De Carolis collection. This will continue in the afternoon with presentations by Giuseppe Di Girolami of the University of Camerino and Giulia Diana, a PhD student at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, who will respectively focus on diagnostics and new technologies for the digital processing of collected data.
Study visits to Urbino and Ascoli Piceno are also planned, as well as a meeting with sculptor Giuliano Giuliani, who will illustrate his work in his quarry in Colle San Marco. The week will culminate on Friday, September 26th at 6:00 PM with a presentation by participants of their findings in a session open to the public.
Professor Giorgio Auneddu Mossa, president of the Mario Sironi Academy of Fine Arts, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration and stated: "On behalf of our Academy, I thank and applaud the artist's hometown for the opportunity to offer our select students and teachers of the professional restoration school this opportunity to undertake the conservative restoration of the plaster cast collection, designed to enhance its long-term enjoyment."
