" Territorial continuity does not allow for tariff increases for residents and must be protected ." Regional Transport Councillor Barbara Manca addresses rising fuel costs and concerns about potential increases in airfares for travel under territorial continuity.
"We understand the complexity of the current situation and the difficulties the air transport system is experiencing due to rising energy costs," Manca stated, "but it is essential to clarify that the territorial continuity system currently in place in Sardinia, established by a ministerial decree consistent with European legislation, does not allow for tariff increases for residents, nor can it be modified with decisions made in the wake of the emergency ." The councilor also emphasizes that " protecting tariffs for Sardinian citizens remains an absolute priority . We are aware of the situation and ready for loyal institutional cooperation, but any potential revision can only occur through formal and structured discussions between the Ministry, the Region, and ENAC, aimed at identifying solutions that maintain the system's balance without burdening passengers."
"Simply reporting the problem and pointing to tariff increases as the only solution," he continues, "is not pragmatism: instead, we need to take responsibility and identify viable solutions ." Finally, he concludes: "The Sardinia Region is already hard at work and ready to do its part fully, but on one point we will not back down: territorial continuity is an essential public service and, as such, must be protected with appropriate tools, shared responsibilities, and respect for the unique nature of Sardinia as an island."
