There is no Cagliari on the list of cities that will host the Davis Cup finals for the next five years. Italy is in fact a candidate to become the seat of the most important tennis team competition in the world but the Sardinian capital, since the matches will be played in the sports halls, does not have an 8 thousand seat facility.

Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian tennis federation, explained: "We are in 107th place in Italy in terms of capacity. Cagliari could have had what it takes, but it does not have a sports hall". The Municipality, however, is already ready to intervene to solve the problem of the lack of facilities to host international sport at the highest levels after many years, so much so that the mayor Paolo Truzzu has announced that he will meet next week the leading exponents of regional sport to plan the construction of a new plant.

"We need to understand - observed the mayor - what the standards must be. And then move on". "Sporting events - underlined the regional councilor for Sport, Gianni Chessa - bring tourism and economic returns. But we have two gaps to fill: the beds and sports facilities up to the level of international events. For our part, we are ready to reiterate and to strengthen the calendar of events for 2021 ".
