Friday 10 February at 20.30 the curtain rises on the 2023 opera and ballet season of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari with " Gloria ", an opera in three acts, on a libretto by Arturo Colautti, based on the comedy "La Haine" by Victorien Sardou.

2023 – after the inaugurations dedicated to the great music of the twentieth century with The submerged bell in 2016 and The sleeping beauty in 2017, both by Respighi , Turandot by Busoni in 2018, Palla de' Mozzi by Marinuzzi in 2020, Cecilia by Refice in 2022 – enthusiastically welcomes another musical rarity, this time   signed by Francesco Cilea and performed in Sardinia for the first time .

This is the fifth and last work composed by Cilea. It was performed for the first time on 15 April 1907 at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan , directed by Arturo Toscanini, but was withdrawn after two performances because it did not achieve the desired success. Reproposed on April 20, 1932 at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, it brings home a better result even if the title always remains among those more rarely represented. The opera is set in 14th century Siena and is a variation on the theme of Romeo and Juliet which tells the tragic story of two lovers caught up in the conflict between the Guelphs and Ghibellines.

The staging of the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari is signed for the direction by the well-known and eclectic artist Antonio Albanese who has already curated, in May 2021 for the reopening to the public of the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, the direction of Don Pasquale by Donizetti. The sets are by Leila Fteita , the costumes by Carola Fenocchio with the collaboration of the costume designer Marco Nateri , the lights are by Andrea Ledda . The orchestra and choir of the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari will be conducted by Maestro Francesco Cilluffo , conductor and composer, one of the most followed by critics young Italian musicians . The choir master is Giovanni Andreoli .

The two casts who will perform in turn are also top notch: Ramaz Chikviladze (10-12-15-17-19)/Mattia Denti (11-16-18) (Aquilante de' Bardi), Anastasia Bartoli (10-12 -15-17-19)/Valentina Boi (11-16-18) (Gloria), Franco Vassallo (10-12-15-17-19)/Ivan Inverardi (11-16-18) (Bardo de' Bardi) , Carlo Ventre (10-12-15-17-19)/Denis Pivnitsky (11-16-18) (Lionetto Ricci), Alessandro Abis (The Bishop), Elena Schirru (La Senese), Alessandro Frabotta (An Auctioneer).

The duration of the opera is approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes , including the two intervals, while the repeats are scheduled for Saturday 11 February at 7 pm (round G); Sunday 12 February at 5pm (round D); Wednesday 15 February at 8.30 pm (round B); Thursday 16 February at 7pm (set F); Friday 17 February at 20.30 (set C); Saturday 18 February at 5pm (round I); Sunday 19 February at 5pm (round E).

Two performances dedicated to school groups who, like every year, reach the Lirico to follow the most famous operas, concerts and ballets. They will both be 60 minutes long , scheduled for Tuesday 14 and Friday 17 February . In the role of narrator the actor Simeone Latini .
