Sardinia is fifth in Italy in the tax evasion ranking with 17.8%. This means that, for every 100 euros of revenue collected, almost 18 are "in the black". The bill is high: 2,401 million euros in tax evasion, almost 2.5 billion out of a national total of 90 .

These are the numbers from the CGIA Research Office based on data from the Ministry of the Interior.

The report also indicates that only six Sardinian municipalities (out of a total of 377) obtained a contribution from the fight against tax evasion of state taxes in 2022 thanks to their "qualified reports".

In the report tables , Sassari is the only provincial capital of the island that earned the prize in 2022 : 5004 euros (24th place in Italy).

At zero altitude, however, Cagliari, Oristano and Nuoro.

The dossier also deals with illegal construction, with Sardinia in eighth place among the regions for the presence of illegal constructions with a rate of 22.5%.

As regards undeclared work , the island ranks in an unflattering sixth place in terms of irregularity rate (given by the ratio between the number of non-regular employed people and the total number of regular and non-regular employed persons). In Sardinia, irregular contracts concern 14.7% of employment relationships .

"How is it possible that in many provincial capital municipalities there has not been a shred of "qualified reporting" on the presence of illegal housing or tax evasion?", asks the CGIA. Adding: «If only part of these irregularities had been communicated according to the procedures to the Revenue Agency, many mayors would have more money at their disposal, while honest citizens, who are the majority, would have better services and lighter local taxes».
