The investigation by the Cagliari Public Prosecutor's Office into former Guardia di Finanza captain Salvatore Mandalà has been concluded. Mandalà is accused of having set up—along with his family and collaborators—a scheme to illegally build an entire hotel complex in Costa Rei, steal water from the public water supply, and evade taxes amounting to over €680,000.

Prosecutor Andrea Vacca also accuses the former soldier of alleged domestic abuse towards his ex-wife, as well as extortion and stalking.

In 2023, around fifty properties (including several parking spaces) were seized from the former officer, but now the Court of Cassation has annulled the seizure and the ball is back in the courts' court in Cagliari, who will rule again on the seizures.

At the center of the investigation is the accommodation complex called "Su Casteddeddu", in the Costa Rei area.
