Tariffs, EU: "We're at the final mile with the US; genuine efforts are needed from both sides."

" Genuine and coordinated efforts are needed from both sides to reach an agreement on tariffs between the United States and the European Union. This is far from a simple goal, especially now that we have reached the last mile, the most difficult one to travel," declared European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill , reiterating the commitment to finding an agreement that benefits both sides of the Atlantic .

Commissioner Sefcovic held intensive discussions with US negotiators Howard Lutnick and Jamieson Greer , and also met with Kevin Hasset, director of the US National Economic Council. This was a new opportunity to seek a negotiated solution, demonstrating our constructive and good-faith commitment.

"Exports represent almost 40% of our GDP; we export products worth €623-624 billion. I hope we reach €700 billion by 2027. Negotiations on tariffs are the exclusive responsibility of the EU Commission; there can't be an Italian negotiation, but we can help Europe in this phase, and that's what I tried to do during my visit to Washington .
