"We say that to be Italian you need to know Italian, Italian history, geography, the constitution and civic education. This is why we say in our Ius Italiae proposal that after ten years of compulsory schooling conducted profitably, you can become an Italian citizen ."

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani illustrates Forza Italia's citizenship bill with these words, at the end of the economic day promoted by the party in Milan.

The Ius Italiae provides that "the foreigner born in Italy or the foreigner who arrives in Italy - we read in the text - before reaching the age of five, who resides continuously for ten years in Italy and attends and passes the classes of compulsory schooling, 5 years of elementary school, 3 years of middle school, 2 of high school, can obtain Italian citizenship, at 16 years of age".

" As long as the child is a minor, the request must be made by a parent. If the parent does not exercise this right, the child may request citizenship upon reaching the age of eighteen," the text explains.
