Sweet Milk Surprise: It Hasn't Started This Strong in Six Years
The young Sassari team coached by Fini was the revelation of the group.Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Sassari's football team is smiling. They're wearing the white and blue jersey of Latte Dolce. After six games, they're just one point behind ambitious Trastevere and veterans Scafatese, the top favorite in Group G of Serie D.
Their record reads four wins, one draw, and a home defeat against Valmontone. To have a similar start, you have to go all the way back to the 2019/20 season, where Latte Dolce performed even better: five wins and one defeat. They finished the season in fifth place.
General Manager Adriano Fantoni is pleased but urges modesty after the 6-1 home defeat of Olbia: "We saw some truly quality play. They're strong, they're hungry, and coach Fini knows how to talk to young players and read games. But we're not fooling ourselves; we're continuing our project of developing young players."
Latte Dolce is certainly the surprise of the group: with a roster of less than 22 years old on average (the lowest in the league), they are proposing an enjoyable style of football, also made up of naivety, as is normal with young players, but compensated by heart and a fair amount of tactical astuteness.
The challenge against the two league leaders will come after the matches against Monastir (home) and Ischia (away), and perhaps only then will it be possible to understand how far the Sassari team can go. However, the pressure lies with their opponents, who have spent more, sometimes significantly more, and have rosters packed with veterans.
