Shops open at Christmas and New Year, the controversy rages in Sardinia. The unions Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and UilTucs Uil contest the decision, announced by several commercial establishments, in particular supermarket chains, to open on Christmas day, December 26th and January 1st.

This is a possibility introduced by the Monti government.

A drift that "must be stemmed", attack the regional secretaries Nella Milazzo (Filcams), Giuseppe Atzori (Fisascat) and Cristiano Ardau (UilTucs), "perhaps through a confrontation with local institutions that sanction a regulation of Sunday and public holidays".

According to the trade unions, "the workers in the trade, at the forefront of the entire health emergency phase, deserve more respect also for the way they have faced the last two years, with courage, responsibility and willingness to carry out their activities in the interest of of the community ".

Also for this reason it is "unacceptable to repay them with the request for further and useless sacrifice, trampling on their right to stay at home and enjoy a well-deserved rest in the family at least on holidays".

In short, the trade unions are asking counterparties for an "attitude of responsibility". And, in reminding all workers that "holiday work is not an obligation and that it is a request that can be declined", they announce that they will take all the necessary actions to ensure that the shops remain closed on those days.
