There has been a palpable anticipation for a long time - among the consolidated group of fans and the more curious - for "Superman: Legacy", the next comic book film by James Gunn, known above all for the very successful Marvel trilogy "Guardians of the Galaxy". The reboot entirely focused on the figure of the Man of Steel will kick off the new cycle of the DC Universe, of which the director himself is the main coordinator together with executive producer Peter Safran.

Gunn himself, shortly after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike called by Hollywood actors, announced on the social network : «Thanks to the efforts of our talented crew, who never lost faith during one of the longest strikes in Hollywood history, and who never stopped working continuously, continuing to move forward, creating the most beautiful characters and sets as incredible as I've ever seen in my entire career, #SupermanLegacy will maintain its originally scheduled release date of July 11, 2025."

More than a year and a half before its release, there is already a lot of news and speculation about this highly anticipated title. We learn from the most recent rumors further details on the plot, relating in particular to the profile of the new main antagonist. According to the leak reported by the insider ViewerAnon, Superman will this time have to face the fearsome alien Brainiac. The villain had already been mentioned in a previous leak leaked from the film's official X account - then immediately removed - which indicated three comic arcs that Gunn would have taken inspiration from in defining the film's plot. We therefore discover that one of the three narrative lines would refer precisely to Brainiac.

The character corresponds to a sort of super intelligent android originally from the planet Colu, driven by a thirst for knowledge and willing to do anything to acquire universal knowledge. With the tendency to travel to various worlds to take over them together with the civilizations that inhabit them, Earth will also capture his attention; but he will have to deal with Superman, the only one capable of standing up to him. Created by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino, Brainiac appeared for the first time in issue number 242 of the DC Comics Action Comics series.

The same source reports that a good part of the events will take place in the Middle East ; we also learn that Superman will come across Kryptonian technology capable of revealing some aspects of his past, attracting all the attention of the world's population.

Here are the exact words of the insider: «Superman is at the beginning of his career and is not yet famous. His big public reveal takes place in the Middle East, where terrorists have come into possession of Kryptonian technology. Waller and Sam Lane send The Authority to investigate and believe Superman is responsible. Superman has learned of the technology in the Fortress of Solitude and hopes it can help him discover his true origins. In any case, the main villain is Brainiac, who pulls the strings of everything."

To clarify this information better, let us remember that "The Authority" are a team of superheroes who appeared in the Stormwatch comic series, particularly known for the dark and violent tone of its contents. Regarding this same group, Gunn anticipated the creation of a film that will connect to the new cycle, announcing it as the toughest and most controversial title of the DC universe that has ever been seen.
