“Superman”, fans ready to invade theaters for the special screening on July 8th

The developments on James Gunn's "Superman" seem to know no respite, and the hypothesis of a title destined to relaunch the name of the director - after the success consolidated in the comic book movies with the trilogy of "The Guardians of the Galaxy" - seems increasingly likely. On the wave of unbridled enthusiasm that is overwhelming the fans - ready to invade the theaters on July 8th on the occasion of the special screening, which will anticipate the official release of the film by three days - the reboot of the Man of Steel has caused the blocking of pre-sales on the American site Fandango, a few hours after the opening of sales for the Prime Early Screening .
A phenomenon of this magnitude aligns perfectly with online predictions, which place “Superman” among the most anticipated titles of 2025, alongside giants such as the upcoming “Avatar 3.” Another title destined to ignite the summer season is the highly anticipated “Fantastic Four: First Class,” which, despite being scheduled for the following week, has already fueled the idea among fans of an epic “Barbenheimer”-style clash, the media event of 2023 that generated record attendance in theaters.
Among the strong points that will characterize the film, the presence of a post-credits scene has already been confirmed, but it will differ from the Marvel style. In this regard, Gunn - intent on not repeating the mistakes of his past collaborations with Marvel Studios - shared some thoughts during an interview with Entertainment Weekly: "I have a philosophy on post-credits scenes. It has to do with the mistakes I made with Marvel."
Referring specifically to Thor’s appearance alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy in “Avengers: Endgame,” he revealed: “I said in the script notes: I’m not putting him in. I don’t want to have Thor in Guardians. I don’t want to make a Thor movie. I don’t understand the character. I love watching his movies and I love Chris Hemsworth as an actor. But I don’t understand how to write that character.”
Expanding on his stance on post-credits scenes – often seen as tools to forcefully connect different franchises – he added: “I didn’t like what I did in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, where we introduced Adam Warlock, the Guardians of the Galaxy and all this stuff that I didn’t necessarily plan on. Well, I planned on keeping the promise I made to Adam Warlock, but you have to be careful. A post-credits scene is like a punch in the face, like: Oh my God! Look at this! Sometimes when you use it just to set something up, you’re ruining the whole thing. It was a tough one to integrate Adam Warlock into Guardians of the Galaxy 3. I loved working with Will and I loved handling the character, but ultimately I felt like I was fitting a square peg into a round hole.”
Speaking of “Superman,” Gunn finally hinted that, if a post-credits scene were to be included, it would not be an end in itself: “I’m not going to put a post-credits scene that’s just looking forward, unless it works really, really well.”
No less surprising is the revelation that Gunn is already considering the possibility of a possible “Superman 2”. The news always comes from the interview with Entertainment Weekly, where he declared without hesitation: «What I’m working on is in some ways… I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But is it a real sequel to Superman? I wouldn’t say necessarily».
What exactly is he referring to with this cryptic statement? If it were an unconventional sequel, he could be referring to a potential spin-off in which Superman would return as a co-protagonist; or, he could remain at the center of the narrative, but in a completely different context than that of Metropolis. Of course, for Gunn, everything starts with a story that works: only then does it make sense to evaluate the insertion of a film within a saga or a larger narrative universe.
