The strike of the handler workers at Cagliari airport has been confirmed for tomorrow - in conjunction with the national mobilization proclaimed by Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uiltrasporti - but the unions are protesting what they consider a "unilateral act" by the Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini «which imposed the reduction from 24 to 4 hours of strike».

At Cagliari airport the handling services will stop from 1pm to 5pm but starting from 10am, in front of the departures area, a protest will take place which will continue until 5pm.

«Minister Salvini carries out an action that strongly undermines the right to strike enshrined in the Constitution – explain the secretaries Alessio Salis (Filt Cgil), Michele Palenzona (Fit Cisl), William Zonca and Michele Deias (Uil Trasporti) -. The unions do not allow themselves to be intimidated and will continue to jointly voice the legitimate requests of the thousands of workers forced to work with a contract that has expired seven years ago. It is not the first time that Minister Salvini has interfered with the dispute which pits trade union organizations and employers' counterparts at the negotiating table. On the occasion of the flood that hit Emilia Romagna, the unions had responsibly accepted the invitation to postpone a planned strike but then, when it was proclaimed again, the minister, that time too, reduced the hours of the protest".

«We are aware that strikes can cause inconvenience to users - explain the secretaries - but this is the only tool through which workers can assert their requests and claims. The inertia of the counterparties which is blocking the postponement of a contractual renewal which is essential to guarantee dignified economic treatment and solid individual protection for workers in a rapidly growing sector is no longer tolerable. We want to send a clear message to Minister Salvini: our determination is unchanged, we will not stop in the face of any attempt to limit the rights and suppress the legitimate protest voice of workers."
