Now that we are in the final stages, we can't wait to find out what the fifth season of "Stranger Things" has in store for us.
Coming later this year, still without an official release date, the Netflix-exclusive television series created by the Duffer Brothers has rekindled the passion for 1980s horror atmospheres since 2016, with references to the literature of Stephen King, the cinema of Steven Spielberg and that of John Carpenter.
Alongside the young protagonists and a cast that has become increasingly richer over time, the show has raised the level of strong emotions and adrenaline with each new release, ensuring for the last cycle of episodes a finale that will certainly not leave you indifferent. The fifth season will end after almost ten years, which has accompanied several generations of viewers dragging them into the sinister atmosphere of the "upside down". Between clashes with horrible monstrosities and intense relationships between the characters, the series is still considered one of the diamonds in the Netflix catalog; in addition to having received critical acclaim with five nominations at the Golden Globes and fifty-five at the Emmy Awards .
Initially scheduled for 2023, the last tranche of episodes was postponed to this year due to complications caused by the previous strike of actors and screenwriters, which inevitably postponed the writing of the script and the start of work on the set. As anticipated by the site "What's on Netflix", generally very accurate when it comes to news on the streaming service, the division of the episodes into two blocks is confirmed - as happened with the previous season; forcing fans to wait a little longer before watching the final episode.
One possible estimate is that the first tranche of episodes will arrive around October 2025, to make room for the second as early as November .
Speaking to Variety while promoting “The Legend of Ochi,” which took place during Sundance in Park City, star Finn Wolfhard — best known for his role as Mike Wheeler — described his experience on set as a sort of post-college period, considering that filming the movie took place immediately after finishing work on “Stranger Things 5.” Recounting the feelings he felt while shooting the final episode of the series, he said: “It was incredibly emotional, obviously. It was the last 10 years of my life. Even for the creators, the Duffer Bros. started when they were 30 and now they’re 40. They’ve all been on a long journey and shared it together. My childhood was all there. It was kind of the Toy Story 3 moment where you leave the toys behind. It was really special.” And mentioning the effort invested in bringing the project forward, he added: “Last year was a very long one. We did a kind of Lord of the Rings shoot that lasted a year. It was a great way to go out and very intense. I feel like it couldn’t have ended any better. The Legend of Ochi is the first film I’ve been promoting since then, so I feel like it’s a post-graduation or something. I can’t wait for it all to come out.”
In fact, David Harbour, irreplaceable in the role of Police Chief Jim Hopper , also gave us a good taste of the amazement and transport that we will experience with the next episodes. Revealing the cast's reaction during the reading of the final episode in a previous episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he revealed: "In terms of this final episode, when we were reading it, just reading it, we got about halfway through and people started crying. Then, when we got to the last 20 minutes, it was uncontrollable crying , waves of different people crying. Noah Schnapp was my favorite."
Going into more detail about why there was such an emotional response from the actors, he added: “I think part of it is also because for these kids, it’s their childhood. Now, 10 years later, we look at that idea, and it’s so well done and so beautifully done… It’s a great episode and it’s an incredible season. You’re going to love it .” Initially reluctant to think that the show was coming to an end, Harbour later backtracked, realizing during the production process that “Stranger Things” will have the best possible ending, closing the circle of a long and overwhelming experience: “I think it’s a great show, even if I wasn’t involved. Now, it’s almost nine years since we shot the first season, and I think it’s time for it to end.”
