The Regional Council is accelerating the drafting of the new statutory law. Today, in the special committee for the revision of the Statute, Assembly President Piero Comandini presented a first draft. The new provisions, for now, concern the possibility for the Legislative Assembly to monitor the work of the Regional Council after the first two and a half years. "This is the case in some Regions. This is a democratic measure that improves the relationship between the administration and citizens," the President said.
The section on electoral law was purposely left blank in the draft because, he explained, "we believe that a more in-depth analysis is needed regarding the most appropriate electoral law to address the issues that arose in the last two elections, where coalitions and parties were excluded from the Council by a handful of votes."
A subcommittee was also established today, comprising the group leaders of the Democratic Party, Five Star Movement, Italy's Brothers of Italy, and the Reform Party , which "will allow us to move faster."
In general, the draft document highlights all the experiences of Italy's autonomous regions. This "will allow us to evaluate and make decisions on issues such as the direct election of the regional president, the relationship between the Legislative Assembly and the Regional Council, cases of incompatibility, and the evaluation of approved laws."
