The trauma network in Southern Sardinia is under pressure— doctors are warning —and this extremely serious problem, given the high number of patients, is completely absent from public and political debate.

In reality, "under stress" doesn't quite capture the situation: dozens of hospital beds are lacking, surgical procedures for femoral neck fractures are never performed within the prescribed 48 hours, the crisis in local facilities is causing everything to converge on Cagliari, the occupancy of the Orthopedics ward at Brotzu is at 150%, people are hospitalized in hallways or wherever makeshift spaces can be found; in essence, the system is collapsing.

Yet there is a quick solution: reopen the Marino Hospital's departments (closed since the Covid pandemic) and move them from Local Health Authority 8 to Arnas, in a general reorganization that would restore efficiency to a core healthcare specialty and provide solutions to citizens, who currently struggle to even obtain a simple cast to immobilize a damaged bone.
