«Instead of sterile solo walkways, let's have an American-style debate and help the Sardinian citizens to understand and decide». Renato Soru raises the bar and aims (above all) at the (centre) right, throwing down a gauntlet to his opponent Paolo Truzzu "oriented", we read in a note issued by the Sardinian Coalition, "to desert most of the confrontations between presidential candidates already scheduled."

The former governor does not mention Alessandra Todde (Campo largo) and Lucia Chessa (Sardegna R-esiste), but they too are called into question: «Let's do it immediately», he reiterates, «in a theater or, as in the USA, in a university, in front of an audience of young people. Let's broadcast it in streaming, but let's also have a national or regional television network host it and ask one of the many good Sardinian journalists who follow politics to ask questions and moderate, in order to reach and inform the widest possible audience."

Soru focuses on the presidential candidate of the coalition led by the Brothers of Italy: «I understand Truzzu's difficulties, forced to leave late because he was blocked by the Roman quarrels», says Soru, «and I share his concern about cramming so many commitments into a short time time, I've been doing it every day for months. This is why I tell him: in addition to the televised electoral stands in which we are called to participate, let's go back to the old ways and organize an American-style public debate, where each of us candidates will be able to present his ideas on the main themes, with equal time and conditions. In the coming months we will see those of the American elections: great spectacles, but also opportunities to bring citizens closer or closer to the importance of politics and voting.»

The mayor of Cagliari who is running for president has already made a move against Soru, recalling that he was defeated by Ugo Cappellacci in 2009. «But perhaps he was distracted», replies Soru, «in 2009 I was not confirmed to the Region mainly thanks to the excessive media power and the lies told by Berlusconi, who almost moved to Sardinia. But five years later, as a candidate for the European elections, I was elected with almost 200 thousand preferences. More votes than he would get in three lifetimes."
