New light at the historic Lavatoio di Majori, one of the most prestigious monumental sites located in the municipality of Sorso. The redevelopment and safety works of the structure have been completed, an intervention that is part of the larger project to enhance the entire area of via Siglienti, which includes several sites of monumental importance, from the Amphitheater to the Billellera Fountain, the first involved in the tender procedure for the assignment of the design of the extraordinary maintenance and safety measures, which will make it possible to recover it to its full functionality also to host shows and events.

“As with the Billellera Fountain - declares the mayor Fabrizio Demelas - I have always experienced this monument as a symbol of the strong and decisive matriarchal imprint inherent in the DNA of our community. With the hope that this will also amplify in the younger generations that feeling of belonging, of pride in the places of identity, necessary to maintain their splendor, decorum and usability ".

The area will be equipped with a video surveillance system and a timed gate that allows ordinary and emergency opening and closing to be regulated even remotely, in order to avoid vandal raids during the night. The maintenance work started last September has erased the signs of time but above all the vandal damage that has marred the monument over the years. As planned, the walls smeared with graffiti were cleaned - adds the commissioner for maintenance, Agostino Delogu - with the cleaning of the pavement, emptying with subsequent cleaning and putting back into operation of the internal tank and the restoration of the lighting system ".
