The newly formed Slow Food Sardegna was formed in the Town Council hall of La Maddalena (Sassari), in the presence of the national leaders of Slow Food Italia APS. Slow Food has been present in Sardinia for several decades – thanks to five Condotte, the local groups of the Association, two Communities, nine Slow Food Presidia and the newborn Slow Food Travel Sulcis Iglesiente project – but since 2009 there has been a lack of regional coordination .
The objectives aim to enhance the regional biodiversity heritage and the knowledge of the cooks who tell the story of the local products , involve citizens and visitors to support the local economy of small-scale producers, make young people protagonists in the associative dynamics .
The Assembly elected the Regional Executive Council, made up of 11 people, representing the local Slow Food Associations of Cagliari, Gallura, Nuoro, Sassari-Alghero and Terre Oristanesi and the SFYN movement - Slow Food Youth Network - which brings together young people under -30 who share the associative vision. The newly formed Council is chaired by Valerio Taras, the vice president is Mauro Monaco .
The main points of the mandate for the next two years include doubling the number of Slow Food Presidia, developing Earth Markets and supporting the Slow Food Alliance of Chefs . But it is to young people that the gaze of the Chiocciola in Sardinia is aimed in particular, and not only with the Orti in Condotta project.
The Slow Food Sardinia program reads: «The group of young people aged between 14 and 25 has shown in recent years that they want to take on the complex environmental challenges that the future holds for us. Slow Food Sardinia, in collaboration with local and youth organizations, intends to promote projects and events to raise citizens' awareness, especially from schools, on some fundamental problems: containment of so-called "altering climate" emissions; reduction of food waste; recovery, reuse and consequent reduction of the presence of plastic waste; containment of land use. We will entrust the young people of SFYN (Slow Food Youth Network) Sardinia with the task of working to raise awareness and spread the culture of how much it is necessary to raise the level of attention on the environmental impact of food chains, on agri-food policies and on food waste".
