“Sla, between science and suffering”: a conference in Cagliari to deepen
The aim is also to compare the various actors of the disease on the island to highlight needs, provide answers and guarantee assistance

“Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in Sardinia: between science and suffering” is the title of the conference scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday 6 April (from 9.30 am) in the “Alberto Boscolo” lecture hall of the university town of Monserrato.
The proceedings - also live streaming on the University of Cagliari website - will open with the greetings of the rector of the University of Cagliari, Francesco Mola, the regional councilor for Hygiene, health and social assistance, Mario Nieddu and the general director of the University Hospital of Cagliari, Chiara Seazzu.
The event combines responses, vision, assistance and some of the key steps connected to the disease. But not only. The aim is also to compare the main actors involved in the management of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in the island to focus on the unmet clinical needs related to the disease and to discuss the strategies to be put in place to respond to them immediately and in perspective.
An appointment that wants to be a sort of "check up" of the pathology in Sardinia, essential to strengthen good practices and to be able to better address critical issues, steps and performances to improve.
The meeting involves Giorgio La Nasa (pro-rector of health activities) and Ferdinando Coghe (medical director of Aou Cagliari) as moderators. Among the speakers Giovanni Defazio (UniCa) spoke on the issue of the spread of the disease, Giuseppe Borghero (Aou Cagliari) on "Unmet clinical needs", Anna Carta and Danilo Pani (UniCa) discuss on "The Interdepartmental University Center Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Diseases of the Motor neuron ". The following session (from 11) is entitled "Purpose and organization of ALS centers in Italy". The works are moderated by the professors of the university of the capital, Marco Monticone and Luigi Atzori. Reports by Andrea Calvo (University of Turin) on "The ALS Center of the Piedmont Region", Jessica Mandrioli (University of Modena / Reggio Emilia) on "The ALS Center in the Emilia-Romagna Region". At the end of the discussion, "What future for SLA in Sardinia?", Moderators Annalisa Bonfiglio and Giovanni Defazio.
The chapter that concludes the day includes a plenary discussion with the participation of patient associations.
