Jannik Sinner will not play the US Open. The world No. 1 tennis player has withdrawn due to a knee injury and will not be at the Grand Slam in New York. "Despite the hard work done by my team and the medical staff, we have had to make the difficult decision not to participate in this year's US Open," the statement reads.

In recent weeks, Sinner had undergone regular check-ups between Milan and JMedical in Turin for his knee problem. "We returned to training in Monte Carlo in the last few days and realized we needed more time to recover from the problem with my right knee," the South Tyrolean champion said. "I'm obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York holds a special place in my heart. I couldn't wait to return to play in that electrifying atmosphere, in front of a fantastic crowd."

The plan now is to stay in Europe and continue her recovery with the medical and athletic training staff, with the goal of being ready for the Asian tour and the tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai.
