Jannik Sinner's return to the court, 27 days after his Wimbledon triumph, was a monologue. The world number 1, in almost exactly an hour of play (59 minutes), defeated Colombian Daniel Galán 6-1, both ways, advancing to the second round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000.

In the first set, Sinner left his opponent with little to no chance, and he couldn't do much to stop the world number one's tennis. The South Tyrolean quickly took a 5-0 lead, with four games tied at nil, before barely allowing Galán to react, leading 5-1 but taking the final 6-1 victory in just 26 minutes of play .

The second set wasn't much more evenly matched. Sinner took a 2-0 lead, while Galán bounced back in the third game with a 2-1 lead, but the gap between the two was too obvious. Another break from the world number one made it 4-1, then the seventh game was a bit more close, but a 30-set win completed the 6-1, 6-1, and the match was over .

Sinner had also beaten Galán in 2021 in the Davis Cup, in straight sets, and at Wimbledon in 2023 in three.
