Hundreds of local government employees gathered in Cagliari, outside the Regional Council building, to support the bill implementing the single sector, which the Chamber began debating today.

The bill will likely be approved tomorrow, especially since twenty-four members have signed up to speak for the general discussion (each councilor has ten minutes), and amendments have been tabled that require further consideration in the first committee.

A single sector means equalizing the contracts (with equal pay) of local government employees with those of regional government employees.

The proposal signed by the president of the Autonomy Commission, Salvatore Corrias, represents a first step toward the final goal, which cannot be achieved overnight. The law provides for the establishment of Aran (the Agency for the Negotiating Representation of the Region and Local Authorities of Sardinia) and the allocation of €12 million for 2025 and €30 million for 2026. However, effective economic equality will have to wait.

"Everything must happen gradually, on an economic level, " explained majority rapporteur Corrias in the Chamber. "This proposal opens up a new scenario. We're interested in launching a significant reform process. This is a stepping stone that will allow us to pick up where we left off 19 years ago, when the single sector was established."

For minority rapporteur Angelo Cocciu (Forza Italia), "we have a moral duty to discriminated public employees." Across the board, the House is expressing support for the bill, but center-right speakers have highlighted the risks of the government challenging it, as well as the need to avoid creating illusions. " Financial coverage is insufficient," said Fausto Piga of the Brothers of Italy (FdI), "and the full allocation of €80-90 million will be needed."
