The world of Sardinian guitar singing loses another of its most illustrious exponents: Giovannino Casu. The great singer from Bulzi, but resident in Porto Torres since 1985 after a long stay in Martis, his wife's town, died at the age of 81 after a short illness.

A career on the stages of Sardinia began in 1959 in Santa Maria Coghinas: with him sang another illustrious fellow villager, Francesco Cubeddu, and Giuseppe Pusceddu accompanied on the guitar by Nicolino Cabizza. For work reasons he was forced to move to the peninsula. He returned to Sardinia in 1966. From there he resumed his career, although he did not disdain to perform in the various clubs of Sardinians during his stay on the continent.

The famous "Sardinian Nightingale" won twice and was the first winner of the "Champions Cup" of the Ozieri event.

He sang with practically everyone, including the great old Antonio Desole and Luigino Cossu. His first recordings date back to the late 1960s, together with Alessandro Fais, guitarist Pietro Fara and accordionist Pietro Madau. Then he also recorded with Mario Firinaiu accompanied by guitarist Michele Senes, with Mario Mannu (guitar Roberto Cadoni and accordion Domenico Medde), Franco Denanni (guitarist Nino Manca and accordionist Franco Udassi) and Antonio Porcu (guitar Antonio Marongiu and accordion Gino Farina).

A career on the stages that went on continuously until 1994, but he never failed to perform if his presence was required also in the following years. He also made evenings abroad.
