After Marta Cartabia , another woman at the helm of the Constitutional Court .

This is Silvana Sciarra , 74, an Apulian labor lawyer (she is originally from Trani), who takes over from Giuliano Amato .

In 2014 she was elected constitutional judge by Parliament and in recent years of the Consulta she has been the vice-president.

Sciarra was elected with only a passing vote - 8 to 7 - prevailing over Daria De Pretis . The third candidate, Nicolò Zanon , did not get any votes.

The new president will remain in office for about a year, until November 2023 .
