"The regulatory provisions and forms of management of deep-sea shrimp fisheries must be revised".

The Regions of Sardinia, Liguria and Tuscany ask this in a letter to the Minister of Agricultural Policies Stefano Patuanelli, in an attempt to avoid the effects of the heavy economic fallout that would derive from the feared quotas for next season.

A press release from the Liguria Region gave the news: "Shrimp fishing - explains vice president Alessandro Piana - is not only of symbolic importance, because it represents a strategic source for the economy and profitability of the sector. 80 trawl boats, of which 9 mainly fish for deep-water shrimp, involving at least 200 families ".

Among the issues to be dealt with urgently, "the resumption of fishing, after the biological rest of a month, from November 3 onwards until December 31, together with the criteria that the Ministry intends to adopt for the definition of the annual individual quota" .

"We ask for explanations on the allotment methods and a clear planning for 2022 in which the Regions have a say. We will not accept an unfair or unjustified distribution of individual fishing quotas, not yet formalized and for which we do not know the conditions", concludes the press release.
