The stars of football, athletics, basketball. In the setting of the Central theatre, Carbonia opens the doors to the 2023 edition of the Ussi Awards , which this year too sees leading figures in the national sports panorama as protagonists.

Starting with Claudio Ranieri . The Cagliari coach receives the "Davide Astori Award", which is assigned every year by the defender's family to a personality from the world of football who has distinguished himself in promoting those values in which Davide himself believed . Giovanna and Renato Astori, present in Carbonia, had no doubts. Over the years Ranieri has carried forward a vision of the world of football oriented towards respect for opponents, fans and journalists, moving closer to the number 13 even in the colors worn, between Cagliari, Roma and Fiorentina.

Also representing the planet of football are Marco Mancosu and the former captain of Cagliari, now at Olbia, Daniele Dessena . Not only that, there is also ample space for the refereeing class, which is experiencing its period of greatest splendor in Sardinia, with two Sardinian referees in Serie A: among the winners Antonio Giua and Giuseppe Collu , making his debut in the top league. Recognition also goes to the Serie B sports judge, Ines Pisano , to the president of the Giulini foundation Ilaria Nardi , to Olbia and to Torres, protagonist of the current Serie C championship.

The giants of basketball will also be at the Ussi Awards, with the former captain of Dinamo Jack De Vecchi and the captain of the national team Gigi Datome , both recently retired from playing basketball. From the world of ball to that of speed, the sprinters Filippo Tortu , Lorenzo Patta and Dalia Kaddari were also present, as well as the rower Stefano Oppo .

The Joseph Vargiu award, dedicated to boxing, goes to Cristian Zara from Sassari, Italian bantamweight champion. Not the only sports represented: during the ceremony, also the universe of volleyball, baseball, handball, table tennis and badminton.

Finally, like every year, awards to journalists: the recipients were Giorgio Porrà and Veronica Baldaccini , as well as Ignazio Caddeo , who recently overcame major health problems.
