Oscar-winning director Paul Haggis arrested in the province of Brindisi on charges of sexual assault and aggravated personal injury. This was announced by the local prosecutor.

The Canadian filmmaker, awarded by the Acadamy in 2006 for Best Screenplay for the film "Crash" , was in Italy to participate in the "Then Fest" event in Ostuni and allegedly forced a young foreign woman to undergo sexual intercourse for two days. .

According to what was reported by the investigators, the woman was then accompanied by the director to the Brindisi airport and left there at the first light of dawn, despite her precarious physical and psychological conditions .

At the airport, the woman was noticed in a state of shock and assisted by the staff of Aeroporti di Puglia and the border police.

Then the agents took her to the Perrino hospital in Brindisi where the "pink protocol" for victims of violence was activated.

Subsequently, the alleged victim formalized the complaint.
